Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Not Trump’s fault
On page 9 of the newspaper, there is an article explaining that the fly that carries the screwworm has been slowly headed north from South America. This has been a northward movement for years. In the very same newspaper, near the front, are 3 Sound Offs that the Sun Herald proudly printed. All of them explaining how it is Trump’s fault. At this point, you should just rename it The Daily TDS.
Preserve coastal heritage
The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to preserve the historic Great Southern Golf Course as permanent public green space for future generations. Rather than losing this unique property to development, let’s use a portion of the BP settlement funds to create a community asset that supports recreation, conservation, tourism, and our coastal heritage. Whether as a public golf course, park, wildlife sanctuary, or a combination of all three, this land belongs in the public trust. Please join me in urging our elected officials to support acquiring and preserving this irreplaceable Gulf Coast treasure.
Keep digging
Graham Platner is being highly condemned by Republicans for a randomly picked, looks scary, skull tatoo he got 20 years ago as a young marine. Wow.
Hating America
It’s not just that many Democrats seem to want to change America. It’s that they seem to actively hate that America isn’t exactly what they want it to be.
Well ... we’re waiting
Since March, President Trump has been saying that he is very close to a deal with Iran. It’s now June and still no deal in sight. I think the guy who says he’s such a great dealmaker is really not.
IPO caution
SpaceX is coming out with a huge trillion-dollar public offering. I predict this will be a classic pump and dump. All the initial big-buck investors will offload their private shares once they’re public, and the investing everyman will be holding the reduced-value bag. Investors beware.
Beach closures
The beach water quality on the coast is from leaking sewers from sewer plants across the Coast’s cities. We should be doing dye testing at all facilities across the Coast. It’s a simple test that can be used to help clean up our water.
