Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Racism
The reason Rep. Bennie Thompson will lose his district based on race is because that is racism. Democrats cannot seem to understand the reason the majority of all races are rejecting them is their platform, not their color. They have championed open borders, no voter ID, abortion, sexual perversion and massive fraud to name a few.
Redistricting
To the winners go the spoils. Nationally, and in our wonderful state, that’s the Republicans. If that means districts will now be drawn without trying to artificially create a Black-majority district, so be it.
Why now?
There is a time that states are supposed to redistrict. It seems ridiculous that so many states are scrambling to do it in advance of this year’s midterms. And that goes for red and blue, alike.
Greed
There is absolutely no reason to produce and sell flavored vapes. We are encouraging our kids to inhale tobacco, which leads to lung cancer.
Speed limit
Most of the neighborhoods have 25 per hour speed limits, except 2nd Street. Their streets are extra wide and have sidewalks on both sides. There is even an electronic speed readout sign. Was this paid for by the residents, besides tax money?
Cost of war
Apparently, inflation has affected everything, including war. After digging through inflation-adjusted numbers, here’s the estimated daily price tag for America’s latest military adventures: Iran conflict (so far): $380–$900+ million per day; Vietnam War: $350–$400 million per day; Iraq War: $300–$500 million per day. Good to know that while Americans argue over grocery prices and egg shortages, Washington can still find nearly a billion dollars a day hiding in the couch cushions for another conflict.
No respect
I was sickened to read that the FBI Director, Kash Patel, apparently thought the sunken USS Arizona was an appropriate backdrop for a recreational snorkeling adventure, complete with Navy SEAL assistance. Nothing says “respect for the fallen” quite like treating a war grave as a VIP tourist attraction. What’s next, a scavenger hunt at the 9/11 Memorial or 4-wheelers racing through Arlington National Cemetery? Shameful.
Democrats
At the end of the day, it’s obvious, Democrats equal fraud. Can’t make this up.
Yes, sir
I must admit, Trump’s strategy of surrounding himself with obedient “yes” men and women seems remarkably effective. Apparently, in today’s GOP, loyalty to Trump matters more than loyalty to the Constitution. Congress folds, cabinet members nod on command, agency heads fall in line, and even SCOTUS gets treated like part of the fan club. We’re no longer asking whether authoritarianism could happen here, we’re apparently beta-testing it in real time.
Iran
Relax. Don’t get ahead of the president. He’s clearly committed to the number one objective: No nukes for the Iranian terrorist regime.
Thanks, Democrats
Every day I am thankful that the Democrats, given four years to prepare, trotted out decrepit Joe Biden and then replaced him at the last minute with, somehow, a worse candidate.
Trump phone
Reading the reviews of the new Trump mobile phone has me laughing like I haven’t laughed in quite awhile. Congratulations, suckers.
