Sound Off: May 26, 2026
Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Memorial Day
When the sun rises on Memorial Day, it’s gut-wrenching if you know and truly grasp why this country has set aside this very special day of remembrance for the fallen service members. To be here now, every single one of us is forever beholden to those from our nation’s first steps to the present, who gave all that could ever be asked to secure our presence. Any individual story makes me sad and cry for the soldier and for those they left behind. But this national day is necessary, like an eternal flame, to remind me of that cost. Only then can mourning turn to gladness or celebration that honors such sacrifice.
Memorial for all
Today we honor veterans who fought for our country. However, references to Black veterans are being erased. What’s wrong with that picture?
More local, please
The Sound Off could use more opinions about local issues and problems. Let’s cancel comments on the Trump Reality Show and talk about things we can control and influence locally.
Remember
May we never remember the real reason for Memorial Day.
It’s not real
Just keep in mind that the A in AI stands for artificial, which means not real. Don’t be led down the rabbit hole with AI posting. Artificial Intelligence means not real intelligence.
Exploding costs
If a builder I hired to renovate my house suddenly multiplied the original estimate by 7, I would waste no time saying “you’re fired.” I suspect Donald Trump would do the same if it involved Mar-a-Lago and his own money.
