Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.

Retrain the Secret Service

This was the third attempt on the life of President Trump and the Secret Service planning for the WHC dinner was abysmal and fraught with holes. In all three of the previous attempts, the perpetrator was an average, nondescript, Trump-hating, deranged, amateur firearms handler, who managed to create a simple plan of action, amble into the President’s orbit and commit the attack. That cannot continue to occur. Trump shouldn’t be anywhere that his protection isn’t at Level 1. That is the level that covers the Super Bowl and high vulnerability events like the upcoming FIFA World Cup and so on.

Second Amendment

Let’s not start acting like the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting was a big deal. Children all over our nation have dealt with much, much worse.

Hot dog guy

There’s a wildly famous internet meme that captures the recent alleged attempt on our president’s life, and the increased political danger, perfectly. We’re all trying to find the guy responsible for this, indeed.

Social Security

Thought I had seen it all with President Trump being blamed for any and everything that has ‘gone wrong’ but it all got topped by a post that blames him for a decision the Social Security Administration made about an individual’s Plan B account being dropped.

All quiet

The reason you don’t hear business owners complaining about lost revenue due to the light crowds is probably that spring breakers don’t spend a lot of money locally when here.

SPLC

Will the SPLC now be placing itself on its own “Hate Map” for allegedly donating to White supremacist groups? Inquiring minds want to know.

The best people

In another one of his brilliant moves, Donald Trump keeps sending two real estate developers with extensive interests in making money from business entanglements in the Middle East to negotiate a deal with Iran. Only the best of the best will do. Great.
