Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Disrespect
I was dismayed by President Trump’s lack of respect at the return of the bodies of the servicemen killed. He was wearing a white ballcap, for goodness sake. What was the matter with him? Was he afraid the wind would mess up his hair?
You made the rules
I got a hearty chuckle out of the Sound Off suggesting Democrats were just looking for a reason to attack President Trump over his disrespect for our fallen heroes. I would humbly ask you to google the words “Obama” and “tan suit” to see the depths Republicans sank to in a bid to attack President Obama.
I’m confused
You can’t kneel during the anthem and you can’t salute if you’re holding a coffee cup and you, apparently now, can’t even ask questions about how things are going in Iran. But what you can do is wear a promotional baseball cap as the dead bodies of soldiers are taken by. Gotcha.
No decency
Removing a hat in certain situations is just common decency, and we have come to accept the fact that our president has none. Even FOX News knows he was wrong, that’s why they tried to fool us with old footage of Trump with no hat, claiming it was just a boo-boo by a staffer. Sure it was.
American democracy
I used to think that American democracy was all about which candidate, by means of their ideas and qualifications, could convince the majority of voters to vote for them. Now it seems that what American democracy is all about is which candidate can raise the most money.
Bingo
The comment on fiscal accountability was right on the money. I would also like to see a total figure for Donald Trump’s out-of-control vanity spending.
Iran
It’s refreshing to see countries that hate America and that have attempted to attack Americans deal with the full might and power of our military forces. Bravo, President Trump.
A new era
It seems Iran has entered the “Finding Out” era of dealing with the United States of America.
Winning
Wow, what a banner year for student athletes. So many made the finals and some became state champions. This is a great thing to be proud of. Congrats to all the players, coaches and supporters.
MCGA
I’m not sure how it happened, but it sure looks like we’re Making the Coast Great Again, when it comes to competing for state championships. First Gulfport brings home a football title, then St. Patrick wins two soccer titles and now Pascagoula and Saint Stanislaus have won basketball titles. So much winning.
Wars ended
Does starting a war with Iran count against President Peace’s total of wars ended? Does he get credit when he says it is over?
A real problem
If our military can use it’s might to overturn the regime in Venezuela, attack Iran, and threaten to overthrow Cuba, why can’t we take action to ensure the Strait of Hormuz, which controls 20% of oil production, remains open? We could do this by escorting tankers, clearing mines and destroying threats quickly. These actions are all designed to restore shipping without triggering a wider war with Iran. Surely other nations who are adversely affected by this situation will join us to ensure oil distribution is not disrupted.
