Towns suffering
With the bridges into Louisiana being closed, businesses in Pearlington are suffering. I would suggest that people go out of their way to deal with them. There are a couple of restaurants we plan to go to over there.
Imperial presidency
I wanted to share something interesting I came across in a recent edition of the Sun Herald. The article is titled “Trump’s Imperial Presidency,” and I think it’s worth summarizing here for us to reflect on. The article states that, nearly 250 years after American colonists threw off their king, this is arguably the closest the country has come during a time of general peace to the centralized authority of a monarch. It highlights several key points: Trump takes it upon himself to reinterpret the constitution and to eviscerate agencies and departments created by Congress. He dictates to private institutions how to run their affairs, sends troops onto American streets, and wages an unauthorized war against nonmilitary boats in the Caribbean. Moreover, he openly uses law enforcement for what his chief of staff calls “score settling” against his enemies, dispenses pardons to favored allies, and equates criticism to sedition punishable by death. This article provides a lot of food for thought, and it might be valuable for us to consider its implications.
A welcome respite
I just finished watching the Sound of Music for the umpteenth time tonight. It keeps getting better and better. What a great way to relax and stop worrying about all the negative issues surrounding us.
Enforce the law
I am deeply frustrated that public officials and high-profile individuals openly defy federal law while Americans witness documented crimes and corruption with little to no accountability. Laws must be enforced equally, and those who break them ... regardless of status or office ... must face full investigation, prosecution, and lawful sentencing. Failure to act only encourages more lawlessness, undermining the rule of law and the credibility of our justice system.
Clinton in the files
I keep hearing calls for the prosecution of Donald Trump. But I haven’t heard many calls for the prosecution of Bill Clinton, who sure appears to have been quite involved in the Epstein affair.
Inspections needed
Don’t you think that if anyone is hauling drugs or has no insurance will call attention to their car by having a broken light? No insurance maybe, but police pull people over for suspicious activity all the time. Keeping your car road-ready protects us. I need to be warned if you are turning or see you if your lights are not on.
Urban renewal
Letting neighborhoods decay by not maintaining them is a tactic used to allow developers to buy undervalued properties. I see this with the properties on Tegarden Road and adjacent streets. I have reported trash pickups with no results, even though I see H2O trucks passing by the piles of debris.
