Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Gulfport club
This doesn’t seem complicated at all. Gulfport High School has rules for the formation of a club. The instant those rules are met, the school must give its blessing to Club America.
Club America
So we’ve got a bunch of adults up in arms over a student wanting to form a club at Gulfport High School? Sounds like we’ve got a bunch of folks with too much time on their hands.
Good for the goose
According to the Sun Herald’s story, “The federal Equal Access Act makes it unlawful for public schools to discriminate against voluntary, student-initiated clubs based on ‘religious, political, philosophical, or other speech content.’ “ To that I say, Club America must be allowed to proceed if it meets the conditions it must meet. I also say, get ready for some clubs you might not be as excited to support.
What’s next?
If it’s going to be OK for there to be a Turning Point USA-affiliated club at Gulfport High School, I’ll also assume it’s OK for there to be a Muslim Students Club or a Black Lives Matter Club.
Religion in schools
Here’s a novel idea. If you want to talk about religion, do it at your church. School is for education. Learn about religion at your church.
Not a Christian nation
I’m so sick of immoral and hateful people professing to being a Christian. Sir, ma’am, your behavior is not what Jesus preached. The Old Testament is what you are following. The Jewish Torah may be more closely aligned to your beliefs.
Boat strike
If the boat strike that has been in the news happened as folks are saying, I’m having an exceptionally difficult time trying to figure out how it is anything other than a war crime.
Still in the fight?
Sen. Tom Cotton said the second strike on the alleged drug runners was necessary because the two survivors were trying to flip the wrecked, capsized boat over so they could stay in the fight. This is absolute nonsense. First, is he a mind reader? Second, any recreational boater knows that you’re not going to flip over a capsized boat that has just been blown up by a missile and expect to go anywhere. Don’t insult the public with ridiculous explanations.
I’m confused
People are mad that we killed people the wrong way?
Killing drug runners
At what point do we start killing drug dealers on the homefront? I mean, if we’re killing them in the water, doesn’t it stand to reason we could/should be killing them on land, too?
Just stop
I’m against illegal drugs. However, this flood of lies from Washington never, never stops. President Trump’s press secretary now says 25,000 lives are saved every time we strike one of the small Venezuela drug boats. Who made that number up? These boats are not transporting fentanyl, they are transporting cocaine and marijuana. So stop the gaslighting and the horse pucky. And a drug boat that has been hit and is on fire, 2,000 miles at sea, with the few survivors left clinging to wreckage, is no longer a threat to anyone.
Get ‘em
Maybe now drug dealers will think twice about trying to bring their goods to America.
