Sound Off: November 25, 2025
Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Getting along
The Oval Office meeting between President Trump and Mayor Mamdani broke liberal hearts and caused screaming at the sky again. Both men came across as adults. Democrats could take a lesson here.
Abolishing FEMA
President Trump wants to abolish FEMA, even though his advisers disagree. Once again, he has no plan to replace FEMA, just get rid of it.
Loving California
I throughly enjoyed the pro-California Sound Off. With the highest homeless populous in America and the highest taxes, you brag about how great it is. Why are you in poor ole racist Mississippi?
Greene’s resignation
Alien lady is a goner. She resigned from Congress because she crossed the bridge and burnt it. She is one more crazy out of the way.
How do you know?
And one can tell which patients are illegal aliens by just visiting an ER?
Insurance
A Sound Off writer said that his/her insurance rates were so high that we need a federal disaster insurance. I agree, but most people do not agree because federal insurance is “Big Government.” Republicans have done such a good job of scaring us away from any form of big government, that we no longer think rationally. In the event if a huge disaster, most people do not have the money or resources to recover. Only the federal government can help us, just like FEMA did after Katrina. Let’s think logically. Sometimes we need the federal government to help us. Sometimes we need Big Government, and our taxes keep our federal government afloat.
Never say never
A word to the wise in our national political discussions. Remembering that a broken clock is right two times every day, one must try to refrain from absolutes in our observations of political behavior. Also realizing that political behavior is predicated as much by public relations as it is by honest reflection, “never” becomes too concrete a description of what happens in the political world.
