Sound Off: November 4, 2025
Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Others will pay
The president has stated that the new ballroom will be paid for by outside donations. This is beginning to sound like “Mexico will pay for the big beautiful wall.” We all know how that worked out, now don’t we.
No response
Because Rep. Ezell represents a district gerrymandered in such a way as to ensure a Republican victory, his office need not be as concerned with constituent communications as those representing the remaining small number of competitive ones across the nation. This was a common complaint about his predecessor, Steven Palazzo, who was only able to appreciate the constituents’ message about his performance by losing the 2022 GOP primary to Ezell.
Ignorance
I can’t believe the ignorance of some of these Sound Offs. Donald Trump is the president. He has nothing to do with the shutdown of the government. That is a different branch of government called the legislature, specifically the Democrats, who want us to add even more to our national debt to give free healthcare to illegals. Trump is not having parties. He is flying around the world facilitating peace agreements. He is not turning the “people’s house” into a brothel. That was President Bill Clinton. Trump is adding a ballroom at no cost to the American people to use instead of a tent with portable restrooms to entertain foreign dignitaries.
No mandate
Sound Off respondents keep saying Democrats were soundly defeated in last November’s elections. True, that Donald Trump carried about 10 more states than did Kamala Harris, but the popular vote was exceedingly close. He won by only a scant 1.5 percent. And Republicans continue to hold the slimmest of margins in both the House and Senate. I would hardly call that a sound defeat. Democrats continue to have a strong voice backed by nearly half of the voters.
Cleanup, please
I thought large piles would be picked up on a regular basis, and trucks would canvas areas looking for them. Now, we are back to creating tickets for specific locations. Tegarden Road’s easements on both sides are littered with trash. It is a well-travelled route that should be maintained like Courthouse and Cowan roads.
Short memory
Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney, but he didn’t govern like the millions who didn’t vote for him were not his responsibility. There shouldn’t be a mandate to ignore millions because they are not loyal to him.
What culture?
The United States is supposed to be a melting pot, not an assimilation of one group’s culture. What exactly is this culture that everyone needs to adhere to anyway? Historically it has been violence and bigotry. Who wants to assimilate into that?
