Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
NYC election
In the event that the self-proclaimed Socialist wins in NYC, things will change for the Democrat party forever. The progressive far left is on a projection that there’s no turning back from. Ever.
Venezuela
It’s beginning to look like Venezuela is a deer in the headlights. President Trump has made the drug boats a point of interest. The objective is for its president to step down. It’s foreign policy, get the point?
MSAGA
I don’t think it’s Make Argentina Great Again. I think what we might have missed was the “South” in Make South America Great Again.
Compromise, please
Republicans own the presidency, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. They can afford to toss a morsel to the Democrats and open the government for the sake of millions of hurting people. And they might want to keep in mind that 75 million people voted for Kamala Harris rather than President Trump. Compromise is the lubricant that enables democracy to keep functioning when differences are severe. Without it, we inch toward secession or war. That did not turn out well last time.
‘Meaningful work’
Speaker Johnson said your Republican Congress is doing their most meaningful work in their districts at home? How about doing something more meaningful than sitting at home taking paychecks for weeks. At least Democrats are in D.C. waiting for you.
Beginning of the end
Don’t know what the TV crew had in mind, but they seemed awfully determined to show facial close-ups with LSU coach Brian Kelly yelling and arguing with the game officials on many occasions during the game where Texas A&M tore the Tigers apart. If the TV crew wanted to show an SEC coach on the cusp of losing his job, they succeeded.
Universal healthcare
Universal health care is such a complicated and incomprehensible monster that only 32 of the 33 developed nations have been able to make it work. Guess which nation couldn’t figure it out?
Where’s the beef?
Social Security recipients will get a 2.8% increase for 2025. Last year 2024 we got 3.2%. What happened to all the savings DOGE was supposed to have created?
Not a big deal
I can’t remember the last time anyone cared about the East Wing of the White House. This is all much ado about nothing.
It’s a tree
It’s been just short of hilarious to see the outcry over the need to remove a dead tree in Ocean Springs. You can bet the same people that are so worked up would be first in line to sue if a branch fell on them.
Cruisin’
As a visitor to your beautiful Coast, thank you for all the friendliness during Cruisin’ The Coast. I can’t wait to come back next year.
Here’s a name
If some of the people paying to build the ballroom are doing so because they are in the Epstein files that President Trump is covering up, then it is only right for it to be named the Epstein Ballroom.
