From the editor

The photograph that was published along with Tuesday’s Sound Off could have misrepresented the individual in the photo. An organizer of Saturday’s No Kings rally says “To be clear, our organizing groups ... do not blanket solicit individuals outside our mailing lists. We would never respond negatively to someone declining an invitation, as this contradicts our commitment to free speech and non-violence.”

Term limits

We already have term limits on members of Congress. We call them “elections.” Although we can’t change everyone in government all at once, we do, every two years, have opportunities to change some of the people in government. Term limits won’t solve the real issues facing our democracy: noncompetitive districts, low voting rates, and low-information voters.

How about this?

Maybe the developers of the downtown Gulfport project at Highway 90 and 25th Avenue can convince the city to close 25th Avenue to 18-wheelers and force them to use 30th Avenue exclusively. This would remove the industrial feel and pollution that the big trucks cause.

Social cancer

Cancer, if aggressive and untreated, gradually destroys one part of a victim and then metastasizes to other parts. Hate is an aggressive social cancer. It has long been killing isolated cells (citizens) in the U.S. Now it is clear that hatred has metastasized in the U.S. The recent acceleration of gun violence in the U.S. is almost like nuclear fission. Hate, like any aggressive cancer, is going to accelerate and destroy our “United” States if it is not brought under control.

You don’t say

A finger in the eye to all those No Kings protests scheduled for Oct 18th. It seems a few got together and brought peace to the Middle East. Not to mention the hostages’ return. Awesome.

A clean Cruisin’

As the biggest ever wrapped up, I noticed just how clean all the events were. The areas along Highway 90 and the beach were left like they were found. No gun violence and no shots fired. Thanks.

America First?

Trump is extending $20 billion to help Argentina while his administration shuts down government, trying to cut Medicare and rural hospitals. We need a totally new Congress. Farewell Mike, you won’t get this vote again.

Federal troops here

Considering how this past weekend went, maybe we need some of those federal troops in Mississippi.

Work together

We don’t need a dictator. We need our politicians working together “for the people.” They forgot that we exist.

End it, already

Democrats, get rid of Sen. Schumer and try to negotiate in good faith with the Republicans, and help end the shutdown.

The shutdown

Honestly, for all the talk about the shutdown, I can’t see where it has affected me in the slightest. Keep it closed for all I care.

Potholes

Here is an idea for the city of Biloxi. Have an inspector check to ensure manhole covers are flush with the road be before you pay the paving contractor.

Neutral Justice Dept.

I totally agree with the post about Pam Bondi’s testimony. We all saw the Department of Justice quit being a neutral organization before and during President Trump’s first term.
