Guard vs. sanitation
While I agree that the mere presence of uniformed National Guard troops can serve as a strong deterrent to crime, I find myself questioning the decision to use these troops in Washington, D.C., for tasks such as trash removal, painting fences, and similar duties. Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to deploy sanitation workers, who are specifically trained and equipped for these types of tasks, rather than soldiers. The Army National Guard’s motto is “Always Ready, Always There,” which highlights their role in providing defense and emergency response. On the other hand, a sanitation company’s motto, “Your waste, our responsibility,” more clearly aligns with the tasks at hand. Which do you think is more appropriate for these non-military duties?
A shame
It truly is a shame that a conservative commentator can’t speak freely in America without needing to fear for his or her safety.
Free speech
So they’re firing people for “insensitive” comments about Charlie Kirk. That sounds like the kind of “politically incorrect” cancellation the right wing is always accusing the left of.
If that’s the rule now ...
I can’t help but notice all the people who have been fired over insensitive responses to the tragic death of Charlie Kirk. And that’s fine. Though I’m old enough to remember an awful lot of mocking of the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband and the Minnesota legislators. Next time a liberal is attacked, let’s keep the same intensity.
Welcome back
Friday’s Sun Herald had a sports article indicating that the NFL viewership had zoomed to new records for the first week of the 2025 season. No surprise there; fans have been waiting since the Super Bowl. Watching Major League Baseball is like watching paint dry. The NBA games only run in two directions: up the court and down the court. No wonder NFL salaries are out of sight
What’s the plan?
My problem with the elimination of FEMA and other programs is that there is no planned alternative. Just saying the states will take control does not explain how this will happen. I guess we will have to see when it happens to us.
ID
It has become a really, really sad day in The United States of America 🇺🇸 when a United States Military Identification Card isn’t a good enough identification card for a business. They will not accept a Military Identification Card. They want to see your driver's license. I realize that I’m only one person, but I will not spend my money with any business that will not accept my Military Identification Card as proof of identification.
Yellow lines
Diamondhead had double yellow lines painted on Analii Street and Bayou Drive; can’t they please put them from the Country Club going all the way to the water tower? Please?
