Sound Off: Aug. 10, 2025
Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics.
Say what?
“Without evidence“ is a phrase increasingly used in the Trump era. Trump and his supporters make up “stuff“ and present fantasy as facts. “Texas redistricting“ writes in Sound Off that the process normally occurs in Texas every two years as a matter of course. No such thing happens.
Texas redistricting
A Sound Off writer said that Texas does redistricting every two years. I do not think that is right. Like most states they do it every 10 years because the census is done every 10 years and population is what determines the number of district each state has. The last time Texas redistricted outside of the census was 2003. I found that on the internet, so it could be wrong. Both political parties do gerrymandering, but that does not make it right.
Vacation politics
You learn something new everyday. Today I learned that it is apparently a crime to go on vacation so much so that even the FBI can get involved.
Good job
I am just getting out and about in Biloxi doing grocery shopping or something else. What a great job the city is accomplishing with the makeover of the park on U.S. 90. And the Popp’s Ferry extension moving forward. Great job. Thanks.
Ease of motorcycles
As a long-time motorcycle rider, I can maybe give an answer to your question. The reason for motorcycles in law enforcement has been because they ARE more maneuverable and can accelerate much faster than cars. They are often utilized in escort duties to stop traffic at an intersection and then jump ahead to the next intersection. They have traditionally been used for traffic control.
What I’ve seen
I don’t know how many illegal immigrants are in South Mississippi, but I can report that as a rideshare driver I used to pick up four or five non-English speaking people weekly, and for the past two or three months I have picked up absolutely none.
Movie time
Does anyone remember the movie “Escape from New York,” with the great Kurt Russell? Yikes
Don’t get it
I didn’t get where I’m at in life by voting as a Democrat. That party wants you to think you have to depend on them to survive by telling you what you need, not what you want. They are keeping you poor.
