To be treasured

Ground Zero, the blues venue in Biloxi, is a regional treasure, and Morgan Freeman, co-owner, is a national treasure. I thank the good Lord for both of them.

Back-and-forth

As I read the Sound Offs daily, I enjoy the back and forth of political discourse. President Trump’s not perfect but at least he’s upright and speaks, unlike mumble and stumble. Who was in charge anyway?

Speed violators

Victory Street in Gulfport is used by knuckleheads to test how fast their vehicles will go. This street has the highest volume of foot traffic in the city and is adjacent to Gulfport High School, yet there are no police to be found.

No more politics

Thank you to the person that suggested no more political Sound Offs. More constructive, inspirational Sound Offs could go a long way in bringing the Gulf Coast together.

Buy your way out of jail

Paul Walczak, a felon convicted of tax evasion was given a full pardon after pleading guilty to charges. The federal judge who sentenced him to 18 months in jail said “there is no get out of jail card for the rich,” and that he must pay back $4 million in restitution. His wealthy mother was then invited to dinner for a face-to-face with President Trump at Mar-a-Lago after paying a $1 million contribution. Trump gave her son a full pardon, wiping out the penalty and jail time. You may want to call it the Art of the Deal, but it looks very much like a corrupt abuse of power and one of many. Research it for yourself.

Grasping at straws

Democrats couldn’t define what a woman is and now they’re paying people to watch Joe Rogen and study men in Brazil. You can’t make this up. Seems importing and buying votes didn’t work.

Hand up or handout

In very general terms, Republicans stand for self-reliance, less government, and Democrats advocate for government to help less advantaged people, whether that disadvantage be physical, mental, or cultural. Republicans rely on personal charity while Democrats feel the government has a role in that. The defining question is what’s a handout and what’s a hand up. Whoever most persuasively defines the answer should win elections.
