State income tax

Well Jackson has done it again. Eliminate the state income tax amounts to a savings of about $25,000 on a $100,000 taxable income. They are really helping the poorest state there. But they raised the sales tax 1.5% to 8.5% and also increased gas tax by 5%. Yes, our elected officials are really looking out for the average Mississipian. The average state representative pay is $23,575 a year, plus expenses. And that is for a part time job. We have the 27th highest-paid state House and Senate. That means that 23 states pay less than we do, and some pay nothing.

Mo’ money

The two veterans organizations that Pete Hegseth ran consistently spent more money than they took in year after year. Quick, legislators, hand that man $850 billion. He fits into government perfectly.

Get it done

It will be President Trump on Monday and goodbye to former President Biden, who vigorously exploited every means to ignore standing immigration laws to allow millions of illegal migrants to easily enter America, remain and receive benefits. Congress must pass legislation immediately to stop Temporary Protected Status, which has been extended to near forever, and end birthright citizenship and chain migration which are open ended loopholes.

Mississippi taxes

The game of tax swapping being played by our Mississippi Legislature is ridiculous. It’s a shell game that will not help the working people. A good house cleaning is in order in Jackson.

Trump time

I agree with “Red Wave,” so I wish the naysayers would just sit back and take a breath and give President Trump a chance for a few years.

Successful Democracy

The “Red Wave” Sound Off claimed that in our recent elections the Democrats “failed miserably.” Yes, they failed, but not miserably. 75 million Americans voted for the Democratic presidential candidate. In a democracy it is dangerous for the winner to ignore or sneer at such a large number of citizens. No matter who is in power, compromise and mutual respect are at the heart of a successful democracy.

The flag

The inauguration of any president is worthy of having the American flag flying at highest staff, like him or not. The fact that we get to cast our vote for our choice every four years is a huge deal. The flag will be returned to half staff the day after to continue honoring former president Carter, who is also worthy, like him or not.
