Voter ID
Every single person who whines about a voter ID requirement has an ID in their wallets that they likely use at least once a day
A good read
I thought your story Sept. 23 on elected positions being eliminated or consolidated, was superb. Another good example is the elected position of County Coroner. The Coroner investigates deaths and should be appointed based upon his/her qualifications as a forensic investigator, not a politician. Unfortunately the MS Constitution requires each county to “elect” (not appoint) a coroner every 4 years. To circumvent this impediment, in 1986, the state legislature enacted a law that strips the elected coroner of all duties. Instead, each county is required to appoint a chief medical examiner investigator to carry out the duties of coroner if they meet minimum requirements for the job. It may not be the best solution, but until we have the courage to change the constitution, it’s an accepted workaround.
Switch
The Glock Switch has left the closet and now shows up in polite cocktail conversation. Criminals in Birmingham used these switches to turn a normal Glock pistol into a select fire machine gun. It’s a simple device selling for less than $150 on the internet and the installation of the switch isn’t that difficult either. All this to say neither the switch nor the gun killed those people in Alabama. It was the human criminals who did. Yes, thugs who know if they are caught they’ll be almost immediately released on bail and they can melt away into another state or country. Real gun control is about having strict penalties for use of a gun in a crime. A mandatory 5 years imprisonment added to the base crime penalty is a start. Gun safety and respect needs to be reinstated in our schools.
Outrageous
I went to the movies yesterday at the Gulfport Cinemark and was shocked to see a trailer for a full length fantasy by Dinesh D’Souza praising Donald Trump and perpetuating the lies about the last presidential election. Are they really going to show an hour and a half of lies and distortions a month and a half before the election? How irresponsible could they be?
The future?
I ran a small business for 40 and a half years and often employed young people. I am a passionate environmentalist. I was saddened and shocked at how few knew anything about recycling.
Rules of the road
I was pushing my shopping cart through Sam’s Club, headed to the exit, when I met a “gentleman“ taking his half of a passageway out of the middle. I politely said, “May I get through please?“ To which he responded, “I’m trying to get through, too.“ What part of “Keep right, except to pass “ do people not understand? It’s one of the most basic rules of the road.
Not bad?
You say Bidenomics is not that bad. Apparently you haven’t bought groceries, or tried to buy a house, or rent an apartment, or buy a car, or tried to get insurance in the last three years.
Perfectly reasonable
Speaker Johnson is not trying to make it more difficult for people to vote. He is attempting to reduce voter fraud. It’s there, whether you admit it or not.
Hiring
Secret Service and other agencies need more staff. When you say no DEI hires, is this code for non-whites and women?
So close
Nice job by the Cowboys of almost not losing to the Ravens. Better luck next week.
What a scene
It took awhile to stop laughing. I mean the unbelievable irony of Hezbollah, a terrorist organization dedicated to the slaughter of all Israelis, crying when Israel strikes back. A group that fires rockets indiscriminately into Israel, that routinely flaunts any cease fire agreements, had pagers explode in members’ hands. A lot of fingers won’t be pulling AK47 triggers for awhile and I continue to revel at that thought.
Overkill
When a person registers to vote, they have to show a legal ID document, give their signature, plus a picture ID. If this person does not have the required documents, they cannot get registered to vote. Therefore, showing extra ID at the polls just wastes everyone’s time.
