Prison protection

People are free to agree or disagree with whatever they want, but at least please get the facts right. Rep. Bennie Thomson’s bill says if someone goes to prison, Secret Service protection ceases and the prison guards become responsible for protecting the person. So if Donald Trump, or anyone else, goes to prison, they don’t get protected by both Secret Service and prison guards. I for one agree with that. To me, that’s managing taxpayers’ dollars.

Exit ramp?

President Biden says he’ll only exit the race if he has a “health problem” and almost immediately it is announced he has contracted COVID? That’s some timing.

Make it make sense

The timeline in the attempted assassination of Donald Trump doesn’t work. Rallygoers saw the shooter and pointed him out minutes before. The Secret Service did absolutely nothing.

Could have been anybody

Good luck on trying to find a motive for the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. He has alienated just about every sub-group in America, including some of his past supporters.

Violence

Donald Trump consistently advocated violence against his perceived enemies. He exacerbated the Jan. 6 rebellion that called for the Vice President Pence to be hanged. His violence-baiting rhetoric has backfired. Just in time to energize the Republican convention.

Seems like a scam

Like many, I’m sure, my mailbox is filled daily with charitable solicitations for donations. That’s fine, but lately there is a disturbing trend: Some “generous benefactors” will double your donation if sent by a certain date. Isn’t this what scammers do? Vague promises with short deadlines? If the “generous benefactor” is identified, I would consider it. But an unknown, blind-box benefactor? Ask them to do a pre-match instead. If you reach a certain goal, you get the matching funds.

$2 million for what?

The state auditor needs to tell his ‘tech’ people to do what private business does: Simply tell state departments to cut their budgets accordingly and reward the department heads who cut the most, to reach the $250 million waste figure.

Changed mind

J.D. Vance, Donald Trump’s running mate called Trump America’s Hitler. He also talked about his followers being on cultural heroin. Now he has changed his mind? Read his book, “Hillbilly Elegy.” You can’t make this stuff up.

Mr. Do-nothing

Donald Trump was in office for four years, and he did not follow through on even one of his promises. I was excited about a beautiful new health care system that was going to be cheap and one of the best in the world. Trump never even made a pretend attempt to do this. Health care just got more expensive and less comprehensive. Then, President Biden made an executive decision to cap the out-of-control price of insulin to $35. This was a huge accomplishment of Biden’s, and I can guarantee you that Trump will abolish this cap, because he did nothing to stop the escalation of the price of insulin in the first place when he was president.

Where’s that wall?

Donald Trump said he would build the wall and make Mexico pay for it. Didn’t happen. What happened was women and children were detained in cages, and children separated from their parents.

COVID kills

“COVID is on the rise again,.” says the Sound Off author. COVID-19 has been the No. 3 killer in the United States, after cancer and heart disease, for a long time. The writer mentions covering one’s cough and frequent handwashing, but fails to mention the most fundamental self-protection: wear a mask.

Not OK any longer?

I’m old enough to remember Donald Trump, and a slew of other Republicans, joking about the attempted killing of Nancy Pelosi’s husband. I guess we’re not allowed to joke about things like that when the shoe is on the other foot.
