Sound Off for April 16, 2024

He’s no victim

Donald Trump a victim? Hah! He claimed to have already been involved in 3,500 legal battles by 2015. That’s a minimum average of 8 a month for the previous four decades. He’s only got four to deal with now, plus a base that’s willing to pay his legal expenses.

Inflation

Inflation is caused by people spending money, not by politics. If you want to curb inflation, curb spending. Spending several hundred dollars to attend a concert, buy a pair of sneakers, or purchase a pair of torn jeans are all examples of what causes inflation. Control the market, instead of letting it control you.

Crooked

I think if you want to see an example of a crooked and evil-doing dictator, you should look to the present occupant of the White House.

Abortion politics

Unlike a previous Sound Off, I see abortion as both a moral and a political issue. It’s a moral issue because we are dealing with a human life. A tiny, silent and defenseless human in waiting. Politically, we have abortion’s multiple consequences. People can see abortion as both primary birth control and necessary to save the life of a woman. Unfortunately, voting for just this one item can give you some unwanted and toxic policies of the wrong politician. Abortion must be legal, just like a heart transplant is, for the life of the woman. Remove the birth control part of the equation and most people are less politically enthusiastic about the issue. A contraceptive implant, provided at the onset of puberty and removable when desired, is one solution. The morality of that, however is yet another question.

Note cards

To the author slamming President Biden’s use of note cards: What a moronic take on this commonly used practice in public oration. Many people, in many positions, use any manner of prompts to assist them in offering their thoughts in appropriate fashion while focusing on their objective. Examples: Ministers from the pulpit, lawyers in the courtroom, professors in class, celebrities accepting awards, employers at meetings or politicians on the campaign trail. It might be well and good if Biden’s opponent made use of the cards rather than the usual flying off the cuff rage rants that readily identify his insecure character and empty word salad speech delivery. On the other hand, maybe that is exactly what we need to see; if you give a man enough rope ...

Children and devices

It always disturbs me when I see a young parent sit down in a restaurant and activate an electronic device to occupy and placate a child. First, I know that my own meal is going to be ruined by the grating noise. But, much worse, is knowing that the child will be denied the opportunity to participate in the joys of a family meal. Perhaps worst of all is that the cycle will be perpetuated in that child’s children.

The real thug

To the writer of “Thug Judge”, the real “thug” is the one who is on trial. In my opinion, he has been a “thug” most of his adult life. Cheating people, sexual misconduct, misrepresentation, threatening people, and the list goes on. If you do not see his wrongdoing you are either politically brainwashed or non-observant. By the way, the “thug” is the only one in my lifetime, 84 years, who has tried to flagrantly weaponize the judicial system. The “thug” is not above the law and should be punished for his criminal wrongdoing.
