Be good to children

“A child ignored by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth.” Seldom have I run across a proverb that is more timely or true. Please, Lord, don’t let my actions cause a single child or other human being to feel worthless or ignored.

Gas stations

If you want to know what people think about the economy, go to a gas station and hear what people are saying. When I filled up I was surprised to hear people being so vocal about the economy. They are not just upset; they are mad as hell.

Wasted water

Gulfport High sprinklers come on even after a hard rain! Now the movers are cutting wet grass.

Knife attack

A stabbing attack against two nurses and a doctor at a Los Angeles hospital. By the current lexicon and standards for calling something a mass incident, this was a mass knife attack. It could also be terrorism or a hate crime. Ban all knives. Require background checks for the purchase of any knife bigger than a pen knife, especially if it is large, black anodized or rigid plastic, concealable, quick opening, serrated on any edge or created with 3D printing.

Gun control

The convicted murderer who escaped from the prison bus and killed 5 family members at their weekend cabin and drove away in the family’s truck, killed them with an AR-15 assault rifle that “may have been taken from the cabin.” Another reason why NO CIVILIANS should be allowed to possess such a weapon.

Attitude is everything

“Whoever is trying to bring you down is already below you.” -Maya Gregory, 8th grader, positive thinker and ongoing contributor to a better world

A positive change

I recently retired from teaching at Pascagoula High School. Each year, positive dress code changes were made based on parent, student and teacher input via end-of-year surveys. We never really had an actual uniform, because it wasn’t practical and the community didn’t want it. If a student did not have appropriate clothing, the school would let them choose something from the school’s clothes closet. Now, a better selection of donated clothing will be possible.
