Salary hikes
Friday’s paper finally discloses the real reason our Jackson politicians were so nice to our teachers in giving them a 5% wage increase. They simply wanted to slip their own wage increase through without fanfare and no discussion. And they did a good job. The six positions listed in the paper received an average 38.5% wage increase. How wonderful it must be to be a politician. The rest of them will fill their plates next year and we won’t know a thing about it until it is done.
Sad state
WLOX-TV began the story on the Reynolds mass murder this week with the words, “The Coast is in shock …” Sadly, no, with more than one every two days in the U.S., mass shootings barely raise eyebrows. Prayers for those left behind.
Hospital help
I hope FEMA will help Memorial Hospital with its pandemic debt. We cannot afford to lose one of the Coast’s biggest hospitals. FEMA is spending millions on people coming in through our Southern border, they should be able to help our hospital.
Brooklyn bridge
I would be interested in discussing a purchase of the Brooklyn Bridge from the writer lamenting true journalism. First, of course, I would expect the writer to provide specifics concerning transactional aspects of the proposed sale. Having lived in Brooklyn and long admired the span while driving and walking across the bridge I would expect the writer’s sale prospective to include more than broad criticisms of the current administration. The devil is in the details, as they say, of which the writer is woefully short.
Don’t understand
I do not understand why this administration is considering canceling student loans. If you signed up to get an education with a student loan, you should pay the loan. Why should our tax dollars be used to pay their loans?
Price increases
Our high prices are the result of corporations raising prices because there is no competition, and they are using the pandemic to raise prices to make record profits. Democrats believe in regulating companies that purposely scam us, while Republicans in Congress refuse to help stop it.
The voters
I have accepted that Joe Biden has been duly elected the president of the United States. Searching the internet for statistics on the voters I found an interesting number. It was claimed that over 31% of all who voted for President Biden are rolling over in their graves. It’s not President Biden that I fear ... it is all the people who voted for him.
Getting out
It is past time for the county and city of Gulfport to get out of the hospital business. The taxpayers cannot afford to pay for mismanagement at the hospital.
