Here’s hoping

Hopefully we can get the grass cut by the city and county this year. Last summer the weeds in some area were five feet tall.

Get it right

We recently had a woods fire in our community. News sources keep referring to us as “near Gulf Park Estates,” or as Gulf Park. This is wrong. We are Fountainbleau, one of the oldest communities in the area. We are rural, non-subdivision and agricultural land with a deep history on the Coast. Don’t cut us short.

Smoke and mirrors

Reasons yesterday’s 15% ethanol announcement was pure, meaningless theater: Ethanol production uses more energy than it produces in your tank, it burns less efficiently than petroleum products, studies show it creates more greenhouse gasses than petrol (NWF & DOE), only a few vehicles can use 15% ethanol and only a few states allow its use. “Burning” all that corn will raise food prices, fueling inflation and hurting people in a brand new way.

Political props

The flags in question were volatile political props and not appropriate for children. Non-political flags, such as state flags or athletic banners, would have been appropriate. The new Mississippi flag would most probably have been a popular item.

Support needed

This is to the person who was talking about the casino money Biloxi School District gets and sports fundraising. Let me enlighten you a little. Casino revenue is used for teacher salaries, electricity, water and internet to run the school. School sports have booster clubs to help with sporting fundraising and yes, they do the car washes and bake sales you speak of but they also do other fun and exciting things. Whether it’s a hand out of money, a donation or buying a cookie it is someone’s own prerogative if they choose to participate or not and it’s none of your business. If you don’t want to help support, then move along and mind your own business. Support the kids, the school and the community and stop complaining.

Get ready

The major oil companies are making record profits right now. Rather than pass their good fortune on to us, they decided to raise their prices at the pump and are buying back their own stocks. This is common practice with these greedy monopolies. They have to continue to please their stockholders every quarter. Until we start regulating our corporations and bringing back competition, prices will never go down again. Get used to it.

Information needed

The boat launch on Brittany in St. Martin has been completed for months but no white lines have been painted to designate the parking places. With summer approaching, we might have a problem with parking. I would like to see someone from District 4 inform the public as to what the problem seems to be. Calls to the office do no good.

Not the whole story

Unfortunately your article depicting a successful Black Spring Break did not give the entire picture of the event. Yes, it was nice to see these young people rollicking on the Coast, but here are some things that ruined two days for the rest of us. The noise level of the cars belching out vulgar lyrics was unbelievable. The smell of illegal drugs was everywhere. And how about the almost naked young girls? Yes we want you to come back next year, but please make a few changes so we can all enjoy the spring weather.
