We need Obamacare

Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance is now out-of-network at Mississippi’s largest hospital. This is why we need Obamacare, a federally funded insurance network, not private.

We deserve better

I am a registered Republican and l am as conservative as an honest person gets. I am also sure many of my fellow Republicans feel the same frustrations as I do about the once Grand Ole Party turning into a rag-tag group of bad actors on a sadly produced reality TV show. All these antics and mental spewing episodes are purely for fundraising. At least Democrats try to legislate.

Overstocking COVID tests

Starting this week, Medicare beneficiaries can get up to eight home COVID tests per month for free. While that’s good on one hand, the question arises as to who would possibly need to check that much or frequently? Is this quantity available because the Biden Administration over calculated? It seems like this is typical, inefficient government: late to the party, playing catch-up and then ending up with warehouses of something no longer useful or necessary that has to be disposed of due to an expiration date.

Is it really a pay raise?

The headlines make reference to a historic Mississippi teacher pay raise of 10%. With the current official inflation rate at about 8%, teachers will officially see about 2%. As we all know, the true inflation rate is somewhere between 12-14%. I would like to hear from a teacher in six months as to how this raise improved their quality of life. How did their financial picture improve? I predict zero improvement.

Be an American

America belongs to Americans, not Republicans, Democrats or any other political group. It is expected that all Americans be involved in the continuous improvement of civilization, not only in America but the entire world. It is wrong for any group to demonize another group in an effort to “win.” Anyone wanting to gain support for their ideas must win on their ideas, not by trashing the other side. I have been around a long time. I see a disturbing trend of people voting against others rather than listening and trusting what they hear (or not) from the people they support.
