Sound Off for April 5

Enforce speeding laws

I read with interest the recent Sound Off comments about lack of traffic controls in Bay Saint Louis. What’s even worse than the golf cart issues is the lack of enforcing speed limits on the residential streets of the city. If you want to take your life in your hand, try taking a walk down Bookter street from Old Spanish Trail to the beach. Enforce the speeding laws

Will Smith & ‘SNL’

“Saturday Night Live” addressed Will Smith’s infamous slap of Chris Rock. This line was great: “I can’t believe the Academy has a worse concussion protocol than the NFL.” See ya, Will.

Biloxi road project

Biloxi’s road projects have been going on for years, robbing homeowners of the “quiet enjoyment” of their properties and leaving business owners to deal with blocking of street and road “arteries” leading to their businesses. The very least the city and county could do is adjust the property taxes paid by property owners during these interruptions on a case-by-case basis.

Child mental health

In reference to Dr. Behrens’ article regarding children’s mental health, I would like to add that, as a former child therapist, I have stopped seeing children for a variety of reasons but one of the big reasons is because of parents. The children are wonderful, even the angry and difficult ones, but their parents often have no empathy for them and are out-and-out mean to them. How can our children thrive when the people who should be their loving caretakers turn their faces from them and provide no emotional support.? Perhaps Dr. Behrens has missed this if she is only working in an intensive care unit, but I have noticed a definite increase in poor parenting over the years. My heart bleeds for these children.
