Sound Off for April 1
Minimum wage
Minimum wages have not kept up with inflation. In 1967, 4.6 hours of work at the minimum wage of $1.40 per hour would buy 20 gallons of gas at the 1967 price of 32 cents per gallon. Today, to buy the same amount of gas at $4.00 per gallon, it requires more than 10 hours of work at today’s minimum wage of $7.50 per hour. A minimum wage equivalent today in purchasing power to that of 1967 would be $17.00 per hour (as to gas at least).
New restaurants
Potential restaurant entrepreneurs are truly missing out on a huge money spending segment of society that just wants good, home cooked meals. Another chicken, Mexican or Asian place just doesn’t cut it.
Respect lost for Will Smith
I lost all respect for Will Smith after his public slap of comedian Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars. Will was uncouth, uncivilized and it was unnecessary. He could have talked to Chris directly later in the evening or used Twitter. Glad he apologized but it didn’t undo the offense for me.
Why did Hyde-Smith wait?
It was announced this week that Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith introduced a bill this month to protect Homeowners from rate increases. Why did she wait so late? The Risk Rating 2.0 is scheduled to go into effect nationwide on April 1, 2022. This should have been addressed in 2021.
School bond vote
Keep Mississippi income tax for new schools since Bay-Waveland residents won’t invest in the public schools for the future of the children. How embarrassing.
Turn signals
Just wondering, how much money do the cities save by purchasing vehicles without turn signals?
