Teacher pay

I’m confused as to why everybody thinks teachers need a pay raise. They only work about 180 days out of the year. All of those days are spent in a heated and cooled room where there are little to no production goals. There are no worries of making a mistake and losing time or money. You basically just have to show up. If you average the pay out, it comes out to about $300 per day. That’s pretty good money for a babysitter if you ask me.

New chief

Congrats to newly appointed Gautier Chief Bever. May God bless and protect all those who serve and protect our communities.

One question

When is someone going to repair the railroad crossing at Creosote Road and U.S. 49?

Better leadership

Why does Mississippi have a surplus of tax revenue when financial shortfalls ranging from lack of state troopers and health care personnel to infrastructure and road/bridge repairs have gone unfunded? Why is Philip Gunn saying he doesn’t know how to spend the surplus? We deserve more competent leadership than that.

Not right

The strange death of comedian Bob Saget, alone in his hotel room, just doesn’t sound right at all. The autopsy showed no alcohol or drugs and he had just completed a two-hour set at a comedy club before returning to his hotel room. He died from blunt force trauma, including multiple skull fractures and a broken eye socket. The police and coroner investigations claim he fell and hit his head on a marble bathroom floor. Unaware of how severe his injury, Saget climbed into his bed and went to sleep where he died. There was no blood on the floor or bed. That level of head trauma would have shown on his face, left a bloody mess and likely prevented him from regaining consciousness on the floor. Something’s not right.

Thank Reagan

To the person who is upset that Social Security is taxed: you can thank President Reagan, who started taxing it in 1984. The Democrats started Social Security to help the working poor with great resistance from the Republican Party. Since Social Security is supposed to help poor people, the founders did not want it taxed. It doesn’t make sense to help people and then charge them a tax on that help. The Republican Party was and still is opposed to Social Security because they see it as socialism. It is socialism, but it’s socialism that most seniors love. When Reagan came to office, he decided to tax it to make it less like socialism.

Tax talk

Most states with no income tax have high property tax. Pension income is exempt from Mississippi state income tax. If property tax is raised, the pensioners in Mississippi will suffer.

What you read

It is indeed a very dangerous practice to believe each and everything you read, no matter where you read it. President Biden’s executive order halted construction on Keystone XL, an extension of the Keystone pipeline. It did not close the Keystone pipeline, which is still operating. The Keystone pipeline does not carry gasoline. It carries crude oil to refineries and terminals in America. The Keystone/Keystone XL pipelines have nothing to do with the gasoline shortage.

The obits

This is to the Sun Herald. Why can’t you put obituaries on the same page in every issue? One day they are on page five the next day they are on page 24. It’s like a scavenger hunt to find them.
