Sound Off for Feb. 28
Fuel shortage
The Keystone Pipeline was owned and was being built by a Canadian company to ship crude oil from Canada to Texas for refining. Then, most of the refined oil was to be exported to foreign companies. The promise of job creation for American companies was inflated. In fact, upon completion in two years, the project would have employed less than 500 workers.
The mayor’s car
Poor Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich. He is driving a car with 120,000 miles on it. It has wheel bearing, transmission and engine problems. Councilman Felix Gines even says it is worn out. If that’s the case, please don’t buy any more Chevrolets. Cars should run over 200,000 miles pretty easily.
Where’s the money?
Because we need a new bridge desperately, I was almost going with the idea of a Popp’s Ferry Road toll bridge until I read Robert Barq’s article in Sunday’s paper. To Biloxi’s mayor and City Council: Where’s the money?
Oil from Russia
I, too, stand with Ukraine and my Slavic brothers and sisters. However, opinions should be shaped and shared based on facts. The United States does not buy oil from Russia. The big oil companies buy oil from Russia and sell it in the United States. Most of the imports currently come from Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Venezuela and Nigeria. Only 8% still comes from Russia.
Gilich’s new SUV
We should buy the mayor of Biloxi a new car, because he does drive about a mile on Pass Road every day, and that alone will destroy an automobile very quick.
