Sound Off for Feb. 11

Mystery hotel

I think it’s about time for the City of Gulfport to be totally transparent and publish the facts regarding the status of the Markham Hotel. I haven’t noticed any activity in several months.

NFL’s fall from grace

I admit I was once a die-hard hometown NFL fan for most of my life. The unforgivable behavior and acts by some overpaid players along with pandering commissioner, owners and misguided fellow players a few years ago in regards to disrespecting our National Anthem was the last straw for me. Politics became center stage. And I have not watched a game in over four years. The recent shameful events surrounding Alvin Kamara bring to light once again that the thuggery mentality of some still rules the league. It casts a dark cloud on a once much esteemed sport and I continue to want no part of it. It is not America’s game!

Is ABC still in control?

I’ve read that individual stores can now sell liquor. Is that right? Does the state ABC still exist, controlling alcohol coming into and sold in Mississippi? Mostly, I’ve read that the ABC warehouse is insufficient for storing their alcohol.

Roundabout deaths

I see another couple has been killed needlessly by the state using roundabouts. Most Americans have never seen a roundabout little lone use one. Why would the state institute something that most Americans are confused by and never actually seen?

Plant native trees

Arbor Day is in February, so it’s the ideal time for planting trees. The state and national garden clubs urge us to plant native plants and trees, which support our native pollinators. Note that palm trees aren’t native.
