Answer the phone

It is impossible reaching anyone in the Hancock County Tax Collector’s office. They never answer the phone and the recording says “call back.” Their Kiln office number just rings and hangs up on its own. No one should have to go to the office in person just to have a question answered. So I called other county phone numbers just to try to find out a simple answer and guess what, the phone rang with no answer. This is totally unacceptable and is nothing new.

Long Beach annexation woes

The City of Long Beach proposes to annex an area twice its size? They cannot even get stop lights back to working some 14 months after a hurricane. They know they cannot provide all the city services to the proposed area. Just like Gulfport, the sparsely populated area under consideration will not have water and sewer over the entire area in the next 30 years but will pay full city taxes in perpetuity. State laws on annexation need to be changed.

Masks at doctor visits

Please, wear a mask in any hospital, doctor’s office or urgent care setting. There are people who seriously sick with risky conditions and can’t risk getting COVID. Have some compassion and think of others besides yourselves. I’m waiting to get labs done and there are several people without masks. Selfish, cruel people. Practice empathy and compassion.

Long Beach’s economic growth

Its about time Long Beach decided to expand north and annex the land along Canal Road before Gulfport goes for it and pens the city in. Along with the Beatline Parkway project, it will help bring economic growth to Long Beach and all of western Harrison county. The only city councilmen to object to both necessary projects is Patrick Bennett. The newest member of the council seems to be more interested in making speeches and furthering his political ambitions that doing what is best for the city.

Where’s the map?

Thank you, Sun Herald, for the in-depth report on proposed Long Beach annexation. Is there an online resource for the map that shows more detail?
