Sound Off for Dec. 17

Liquor control

I know I’m not the only person that thinks it is time for Mississippi to get out of the liquor business. I would love to know the excuse they have for not keeping the liquor store shelves stocked. Surely they must realize that people are spending their money in Louisiana due to the lack of product.

Make U.S. 90 safer in Waveland

If Waveland is really serious about improving the U.S. 90 corridor, their first priority should be constructing a sidewalk between Kiln-Waveland Cutoff Road and Highway 603, and make a safe pedestrian crosswalk across Highway 90. Citizens who live in the large apartment complexes in this area often walk to the grocery, Walmart and other shopping. They need a safe pathway.

Money spent

What about the people on the north side of U.S. 90 who have beachfront views already? What happens when someone builds directly in front of them and cuts off their view? They spent a lot of money for a beach view, and while we’re at it, how did this sneak under the radar?

Long Beach annexation

Just saw the proposed Long Beach annexation map. I’m surprised that the city is trying to annex all that property north of Interstate 10 when they can’t even maintain the minimal traffic signals they have now. Even more surprised that the city and their consultants think they are entitled to all four corners of the Canal Road/I-10 intersection and land on the east side of Canal Road. Hope Gulfport city leaders are not asleep at the wheel and fight this greedy land grab.

Walking in the street

Who’s idea was to fence off the walkable space on Victory Street in Gulfport? Pedestrians already have to walk in the streets. This includes students.
