Sound Off for Dec. 9
Tidelands ownership
Tidelands mean just that, the land adjacent to water between high tide and low tide. It surely can’t include property all the way up to U.S. 90. Obviously the secretary of state needs to do some research.
Thank you, power company linemen
This is a big thank you to the Singing River Power folks who restored our power Tuesday night. It was done in less than two hours—a great job!
Use your car blinker
People are excited about the new iPhone but have not caught up with the technology of using turn signals when driving.
Women’s rights
For all of the men who weren’t qualified and got promoted instead of a more qualified woman, to the suffragettes who fought for my right to vote, to Roe vs. Wade which protects my choice, for unequal pay for women — let’s realize it’s 2021, not 1950. Advance Mississippi with women’s rights.
State income tax
Eliminating the state income tax may help to entice industry, but it does nothing for the people who need tax relief. If Gov. Tate Reeves wants to help low-income people, the best way would be to lower the sales tax on groceries. Sales tax on a new car is less than the tax on groceries. Lawmakers could also help by supporting Medicaid expansion.
Mexico’s vaccine rate
I’m so tired of Mississippians complaining about refugees from “unvaccinated” Mexico. Fact is, their fully vaccinated rate is higher than Mississippi’s: 50.7% for Mexico vs 47.1% for Mississippi. Perhaps Mississippians should not be allowed to leave the state?
