Sound Off for Nov. 25, 2021
Go Joe go
I don’t know what the Sound Off writer meant by asking where is Joe Biden. President Biden has been very visible while doing his job. This was missing in the previous administration. Biden inherited a mess and is working on fixing it, as any responsible adult would. Buyer’s remorse? Absolutely not. It is wonderful having a real president working for the best interest of the country and our citizens.
Thank you
You’re right when you say Joe Biden has no control of gasoline prices. The reason the global market sets the prices is because we are no longer energy independent like we were under President Trump. Thank you, President Biden.
Way too much
I just filled my car with gas. $40 at the pump. Thanks President Biden.
Movie time?
Does anyone know when the movie “Christmas in Mississippi” will air? That movie was filmed on the Coast.
Holiday tip
As we approach the sometimes expensive holiday season, stop using the change machines in grocery stores where they charge 10 cents on the dollar. At the Dollar General on Railroad Street in Long Beach, they will buy your change at no cost. Also, if you save enough change to wrap, take it to the bank and they will cash it in for you, but it has to be wrapped if going to the bank.
Justice system
Our justice system in America is broken. Some people get away with criminal activity and others do not. Especially on the federal level. It depends on your political affiliation.
Toll worries
A toll bridge? Sure, the people traveling across the Popp’s Ferry bridge will be thrilled. But once they have a toll they can keeping raising the amount every year. Where does money go? General fund? Not a bright or responsible idea.
Tax loopholes
The top 5% of income earners pay over 60% of the federal taxes. The bottom 50% of income earners pay less than 3% of the federal taxes. The “rich don’t pay their fair share” mantra is bogus. They found a few billionaires that paid no taxes. Yes, a few used “loopholes” in the tax laws, written by many that are pushing the bogus mantra. Solution: Get rid of the loopholes. They don’t want that solution, they want more money from those at the top 5% that are already paying the bulk of the taxes, to support their socialist programs.
Not true
Regarding Gov. Tate Reeve’s statement that Mississippi can’t get enough workers because of Biden’s far left-wing policies: that just isn’t true. The federal minimum wage has been raised 22 times since its inception in 1938. Except for times of war, our economy improved every time it was raised. It’s been 12 years since it has been raised, while inflation has skyrocketed. Meanwhile corporations have been making record profits on the backs of workers.
