Medical marijuana

I don’t use marijuana but do support the use of medical marijuana for anyone suffering from chronic pain, such as those with cancer pain. Who is the governor to decide how many marijuana cigarettes a person is allowed to have if they are suffering in pain? I have seen cancer patients cry in pain and if it takes 11 marijuana cigarettes each day to give them pain relief, I say let them have it. Gov. Tate Reeves is trying to play doctor.

Fill the port

Yesterday, the federal government announced a plan to expand the capacity of U.S. Ports. $243 million in infrastructure grants are available. This would be a perfect opportunity for the State Port in Gulfport to apply for a grant and deepen the channel to accommodate the back log of ship at the nation’s ports.

COVID & Coast restaurant group

Interesting to see Coast restaurant group happy about the halt on vaccine mandates for private employers. The group’s vice president, Kevin Fish, said his employees are worried about their jobs. Sounds like Fish is more worried about losing money then he is about the spreading of COVID to his employees and customers. Maybe his employees should worry more about losing their lives.

Local port jobs

President Joe Biden is going to spend money to upgrade our ports. I would like to see those jobs brought home where we don’t have to buy from overseas. Makes me think about the $300 million dollar cranes at Gulfport port that we imported from China.

Not just Biden

Don’t thank Biden too fast. The Republicans were in favor of an infrastructure bill from the get-go, and it was only held up by Democrats trying to get a big spending bill. Years ago when Obama was first elected, Congress gave them almost $1 trillion to be used on “shovel ready jobs” for the infrastructure. Those jobs never transpired. A lot of money was spent on a solar panel endeavor that went broke and an electric car that fizzled.

Guns at school

For the third time in recent weeks, a Biloxi High student has been arrested for bringing a gun on campus. The report says the student will be disciplined. What about the parents? How about disciplining them for allowing access to firearms?

Healthy workforce

It’s hard to fathom the logic of the restaurant group and the Mississippi Attorney General who joined the suit to oppose the federal vaccine mandate. It would seem to me that having a healthy workforce would actually be to the benefit of businesses and states.

Go hybrid or electric

Gas prices are high. We have gone through this before, and will no doubt suffer through it again in the future. I drive a hybrid and get 57 miles to the gallon, so high gas prices don’t affect me much.

My next car will be electric because I don’t want to keep supporting the crooked oil industry. Scientists have already decided that old electric car batteries will be used to store sun and wind power, so that is no longer an excuse. Our new infrastructure bill will include more charging stations as well. Let’s stop being slaves to gas prices.
