Sound Off for Oct. 23, 2021
A distraction?
Doug Carswell’s opinion story called “We need to combat critical race theory in Mississippi” merely diverts attention from what we really need: better COVID education, more shots in arms, more good paying jobs, better public education, better and less expensive child care, and action against global warming, which is seriously damaging the agriculture and seafood industries on which we depend so heavily.
Watch out
We’re on the fast track to socialist utopia. The current administration and the media is telling us all to get used to it and prepare for going without. You can bet they’ll have everything they need.
Bold prediction
An 18th Century French philosopher once said that democracy won’t work in the long run because the nonproductive voters will eventually gain the majority and vote in representatives who will give them so many entitlements that they suck the productive voters dry. Looks like he knew what he was talking about.
Not their doing
I keep reading that Joe Biden is responsible for our high gas prices. The price of gas has nothing to with the president. The price of gas depends on the cost of crude oil, which depends on the availability of crude oil. None of our presidents has ever had any control over gas prices.
His policies
A Sound Off writer says Biden is not responsible for high gas prices, that he does not set prices. Come on, man. His policies, by halting all oil drilling and oil production in the USA, cause high gas prices.
Loving Biden
I am a Biden supporter and have always loved my country. I love and respect President Biden and feel the country is much safer and secure with him at the helm. I haven’t always liked the people running the country, but for the most part respected them. An exception to that is Trump.
The answer
This is to the writer that asked, “Do I like my county now as a Biden voter?” I say not only do I like it, but I love it again.
Majority rules
Majority vote law is a good thing. In 1975, I was stationed in Italy. Italy elected a communist to lead their government. I asked our Italian cooks about it. They said Italy had 12 or 13 parties. The communists got 10-11% of the vote, the other parties split the remaining votes and if any one of the others ran alone against the communists they would have gotten 89% of the vote.
No rights
Mice die in mouse traps because they don’t understand why the cheese is free. Perfect explanation for college liberals who, though never having visited or lived in a socialist or communist country, swallow the propaganda they’ve been fed and want America to copy. They have no idea their current way of life is guaranteed by our Constitution. Without it, they will have nothing. Not a single, individual right.
