The rain
Almost all rain forests receive on average 80 inches of rain annually. South Mississippi has seen 70 inches, and it’s only July. Remember the swamp always wins, so maybe we should give it up.
Fire chief
I have never met the Biloxi fire chief, however, I have the highest respect for him and his 35 plus years of service. I also admire his professionalism, sincerity and integrity in the manner in which he is responding to the political nonsense of the city council. To the city council, shame on you.
Chief Boney
Chief Boney has done a great job keeping our fire rating. How come Biloxi’s police department can’t do the same thing and get crime under control? Not to mention public works. The road right-of-ways are awful.
Great Southern
What a shame for the Coast to lose the oldest golf course in Mississippi. So sad to see such a historic course and beautiful location turned into just another subdivision. With the right support, it could again become a premier golf destination. Is there any hope for a different outcome?
To ‘In the news’
If people “wanted” the vaccine, they would have gotten it, because it has been very available, almost to the point of being pushed down people’s throats. I’m so thankful we “still” live in a free country where we still have a choice.
Above average
Buc-ee’s is not the truck stop one normally sees on our interstate. I once stopped regularly at two in Texas. There will be walking areas, outdoor protected pens for pets, good snack-type food, and, most importantly, the absolute cleanest restrooms. It’s a great addition for Harrison County.
Taxpayer-built
To accommodate Buc-cee’s, MDOT’s cost for the overpass five-laning alone is projected to be $50 million. The county and state will undoubtedly throw in more improvements and tax breaks. Essentially, the taxpayers build a convenience store, get nothing in return but increased taxes.
