Sound Off for Sept. 28, 2020

Hiller Park

The main road in Hiller Park has become like a raceway, especially when I’m there during the lunch hour. Drivers are ignoring the 15mph street signs and speeding through. Children are almost always there at the playground. Biloxi police please slow these drivers down before a child gets hit.

Dear ‘Just trashy’

The City of Diamondhead did have curbside recycling, but the citizens complained about the increased cost and felt that it was not needed as there was no place for recycling items to be processed. There are also some citizens in Diamondhead that are physically unable to take recycling items to the recycle bins located at city hall. Did you take the time to discuss the issue with your councilperson or someone at city hall?

Constitution

Tate Reeves found a loophole in our state constitution to veto partial pieces of a bill. He is interpreting the constitution like many do with the Bible; picking and choosing what fits their agenda.

Stop means stop

I swear, Biloxi could finance the construction of the new Popps Ferry bridge if they would just issue traffic tickets at the corner of Iberville Drive and Bilmarsen where nobody stops at stop signs, day or night.

Freedom

Mask deniers are using “freedom” as an excuse to condone reckless behavior. How about not wearing seat belts. They make it hard to breathe and restricts movement. Let’s use the veteran’s sacrifices to make a political point of that.

Espy

These are the Espy facts as published by The Washington Post. Espy was told by White House officials that he should resign. Under investigation, Espy showed “a pattern of problems.” The most critical was a scholarship given to his girlfriend by Tyson Foods. The White House felt he was less than straight forward about this. To his credit he did reimburse his department $7,500 for questionable expenses. In my opinion, a forced resignation is the same as being removed.
