Sound Off for Sept. 20, 2020
Political mixology
When you mix politics with science, you get politics. When you mix politics with education, you get politics. When you mix politics with education, religion, social programs, or (fill in the blank) you always just get more politics. Some things just don’t change.
Recyclables
Is there anywhere I can take my recyclables now that Jackson County is not picking them up?
Senate race
We are admonished by Martin Luther King Jr. to judge a person by their character, not the color of their skin. That should hold true for the November Senate race between the two candidates. Examine Cindy Hyde-Smith’s record in Congress compared to Mike Espy’s record during the Clinton administration. One received high praise from her president while the other was removed from office by his president for misconduct.
Aquariums galore
I see where Gulfport’s multi-million dollar aquarium has been reopened. I also know that the Audubon Aquarium is also open and the Dauphin Island Aquarium will be back in business soon. I am still curious as to who is going to pay the $30 adult ticket price. Alabama is more than half the price and Audubon is about 20% cheaper. The Gulfport operation is not sustainable. Citizens should call for an accounting update at the six-month mark and get an explanation as to how this facility will ever pay for itself.
Great show
Great job on the MS Songwriters Hall of Fame show. It was cool to learn about Buffett and see the outpouring of support from the music community for Reggie Bates, Michael Watson, Kenny Chesney, and the singing dogs put it over the top for me! They announced an encore performance this weekend at Ocean Springs Chamber or mssongwritersfestival.com.
Listening?
Are Coast leaders seeing and listening to the many Sound Offs against having Cruisin’ the Coast during a pandemic?
Wonderland
I think we all now know how Alice felt when she fell down the rabbit hole!
