Sound Off for Sept. 8, 2020
Politicization
Does anybody see the irony in a story headlined Reeves bemoans COVID politicizing and then immediately politicizes everything COVID?
Worse response
Trump’s initial response to COVID-19 was to tell us the virus was under control. Then he accused the left of politicizing the virus. Then he told states to shut down, and then encouraged protest against shutdowns. He put forth reopening requirements, and then encouraged reopening before meeting the requirements. He refused to have a federally coordinated response, leaving states to compete with each other. He espoused misinformation. To see an alternative, look at the rest of the world.
Hit piece
The Atlantic magazine article, using anonymous sources, alleged President Trump made disparaging remarks about military veterans and called some who died in WWII “losers and suckers.” There is no doubt it’s a fake hit piece. There is no way the president did such a thing. He has to much respect for our military as evidenced by all of his comments and actions.
To say so
It is well-documented that Trump downplayed the threat of the virus through February and some of March. He famously even said the coronavirus would just disappear “like a miracle”. Then of course he refused to wear a mask until he absolutely had to. This caused millions of his followers to shun masks. Don’t try to blame this on the Democrats.
MS plan
I just read where many states are well into planning for storage and distribution of a vaccine when one becomes available. I pray that Dr. Thomas Dobbs has a plan in motion.
Vaccine wait
To the Sunday Sound Off stating that the vaccine should have been done earlier, the science of creating vaccines is very complicated. It’s not an overnight development. The FDA requires extreme testing throughout many stages to deem the vaccine safe. This vaccine will be finished in historic, record time. Our scientists along with those in Great Britain are amazing!
