Sound Off for Sept. 4, 2020

New Magnolia flag

Congratulations to the Flag Commission for their selection of the “New Magnolia” Flag. The only thing I liked about the runner-up was the Commission’s update using the diamond shapes in honor of the Choctaw Indians. But now I realize that the beautiful Magnolia was here when only the Choctaws and other Mississippi Indian tribes were here. The chosen flag is plum gorgeous!

Finish one first

Why in the world would we even discuss a new corridor when the Canal Road to 30th Avenue hasn’t been worked on in years. This route takes the trucks off of 49 and takes them directly to the port. Finish this project first, then you wont need the other corridor.

Conservative convictions

I have always received a reply from Palazzo when I contact him. I don’t care what politicians do when they are looking for votes. I know Palazzo votes strictly conservative in Congress, Taylor did not. Representatives are not supposed to vote their “convictions,” they are sent to represent their constituents — majority conservative Gulf Coast.

Remembering Gene

I saw him at Mass on Saturday evening for several years before Katrina. He was the first elected official I saw after Katrina. He was always compassionate and present. His town hall meetings were genuine. We had a problem with SBA on a loan in 2006. I called his Gulfport office and the issue was resolved in a timely manner. He even went out of his way to make contact with us weeks later to follow up and make sure everything was good. Miss him!

Unsafe

I agree with the Sound Off writer from Diamondhead, it is unsafe to have golf carts on city streets. Most of the drivers are children without supervision. Who introduced this resolution and why? This makes about as much sense as Mississippi not having vehicle inspections. Dumb.

Walkers

Scott Walkers says that he and his father are doing “a great job” of paying off their debt while doing nothing. Who does that sound like?
