Sound Off for Sept. 2, 2020

Abandoned boats

The recent diesel spill in Fort Bayou Ocean Springs originating from an abandoned yacht magnifies the question: Is there anything the state and Department of Marine Resources can do to force owners to remove the numerous derelict vessels from our waterways?

Bad memory

“Remembering Taylor” asked if we remember Rep. Gene Taylor, a hard-working moderate Republican. Someone has a bad memory. Taylor was a life-long Democrat, who lost to a Republican. Then when conservatives realized his Pelosi-supporting record, they voted for a Republican. Then he tried to switch parties to get his job back, but voters were not fooled.

Second amendment

Seems like the Second amendment only applies to white vigilantes, militia and homeowners. When a black man has a gun, it is used as an excuse because of fear for one’s life.

All the facts

Yes, the media should fact check but not only one side. The media should provide the facts, all of them, not selected pieces. Partiality is believing every fact you are told because it is exactly what you want to hear. After four years of the media telling me just what I wanted to hear, I think I would start to smell a rat, but I suppose I’m being partial to common sense.

Regular person

I am an American Republican. I am not a pedophile. I don’t drink children’s blood. I am not in a cabal to overthrow the government. Please don’t say or believe such awful things about Republicans. It’s terribly unfair.

In it together

We are in this world together. It is time for all of us to treat our fellow human beings with respect and dignity, regardless of the color of their skin, ethnic origin, sex, age, education, economic or social status. We are all God’s children.

Golf cart chaos

Biloxi should not allow golf carts on public streets. I live in Diamondhead, and it is a disaster here. Parents allow children to drive them, they do not have the required safety equipment, they do not use turn signals or seat belts or follow other city and state traffic laws. And, they hinder the flow of traffic.
