Sound Off for Aug. 27, 2020
Fines are in order
I keep waiting to learn that the adults responsible for the big parties that closed Biloxi HS were fined. I think about $1000 stupidity fine for each and every one of them is about appropriate.
No distancing
Your story highlighted the soft opening of the Mississippi Aquarium on Sunday and the cancellation of the remainder of the soft openings for the week. We attended and were one of the 1,400 visitors there. Most people wore masks, but there was no social distancing. The attendees were not staggered, tickets did not have a time, and there were about 300 people in line at 10 a.m. There were a few attempts by staff to encourage social distancing, but that is hard to do when you have a line of over 100 people.
Driving inconvenience
Drivers in downtown Gulfport, beware! Tuesday morning it was like one of those fun houses at the carnival, with some streets blocked and you had to either drive around the blockades or through parking lots. At one point, I thought I was trapped. The sooner this aquarium hubbub is settled, the better off we’ll all be.
Cash is king
I’m an old man, and I believe cash is still king! It will be a cold day in the netherworld before I ever use a debit card, drive an electric car, wear Birkenstocks or get an earring.
One-sided
The latest news release on the Mary C. and the “battle for control” is very one-sided. It reads like the “Front Beach” version of power-people getting their toes stepped on. Your reporter(s) should cover both sides. Many of the community theater crowd appreciated the action taken by the Aldermen. The Mary C. was much more than “cooking & painting.”
Antifa
To the person who called Antifa a terrorist organization, name me one act of terror they have committed?
Flag voters
I vote that only native Mississippians vote on our new flag, the Magnolia.
