Sound Off for Aug. 24, 2020
Masks
To uninformed “mask protection,” the medical community has never said masks prevent the spread of COVID-19. They have only said it helps prevent the spread. A very important distinction.
Don’t get bit
To “mask protection,” OFF bug spray helps keep mosquitoes away but it won’t work 100% and you will get bit if you stand in a room filled with mosquitoes. Get it now?
They are right
The casino employees who spoke to the Gaming Commission about casinos not following mandates are right. I have visited several casinos over the weeks, and I have seen many guests with no masks, some with them down around their necks and chins. There must be action taken by not only the commission but also local government to enforce the policies.
What a waste
Most Coast cities recycle glass, but not Gulfport. Why not? We did before contracting with Waste Pro. What large-scale recycling center doesn’t accept glass? Where is Gulfport’s recycling processed? Or is it? Something doesn’t make sense here.
Sad sad sad
I saw firsthand how terrible the elderly are being treated in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. It’s nothing more than a prison and the inmates (elderly) are basically in solitary confinement. They are prohibited contact with their families and friends.
Our flag
Recent Sound Off says our flag should be respected and they are 100% right. But peaceful protest and praying are protected under the Constitution, and in my opinion are respectful of the flag. There are a whole lot of other things they could be doing that would be disrespectful.
Your comfort
To the person who wrote “Freedoms,” what about other people’s freedoms to be in public places without having you breathing on them without a mask and putting them at risk? As my dad always used to say, “Your right to swing your fist ends where my nose begins.” You are putting others at risk and complaining about your rights being violated by having to wear a mask in the middle of a pandemic.
