Sound Off for Aug. 19, 2020
Helpful info
I wasted a considerable amount of time searching the Harrison Co. Circuit Clerk’s website for information on absentee voting. The topic is not addressed. Perhaps the clerk could provide a link to Anita Lee’s informative article. Thanks for the info, Anita!
No protesting
I usually enjoy reading Brian Allee-Walsh, but I disagree with his criticism of President Trump’s intolerance of the so-called social justice “peaceful protests” by kneeling during the anthem. If these spoiled, multi-millionaires want to protest, let them do it on their own time. I am a Saints season ticket holder, but I will not hesitate to cancel my season tickets if these protests are allowed to continue.
State Flag
Of the nine flags shown on Sunday’s paper, the final choice could be decided by a process of elimination. The two with a tree are out because no one knows what kind of tree they are. The five with Magnolias are eliminated because it’s also the state flower for Louisiana. The flag with a shield cannot be associated with Mississippi. The only choice is the one with the unique shape of our state.
Outsiders
How sad. What our new Mississippi flag will say to non-Christian residents, prospective residents, and visitors is: “If you trust in Allah or Buddha or Krishna or Science or Yahweh or something else and not foremost in the Christian God, then you’ll never really be one of us. To us you’ll always be an outsider.”
Finalists
I don’t care for the 9 flag finalists. Mississippi has a beautiful river, river boats, a gorgeous coast, light houses, birds, fish, deer, a grand number of different species of wildlife, Natchez Trace, Longleaf Trace. Why can’t the flag depict more?
Count will rise
Hancock County has been doing well in the South Mississippi COVID count, but that is about to end. The big “concert,” or excuse for drinkers to gather and mingle drew, thousands close together so our count will rise. Stay away from crowds and restaurants for the next few months until we can get back to where we were.
