Sound Off for Aug. 15, 2020
Right thing to do
This is regarding the opposition in Washington to a memorial to Emmett Till, the African American boy who was lynched because he supposedly whistled at a white woman, who later admitted she lied. When I was a teenager, I was neighbors with a young African American boy. We happened to meet sometimes walking on the road and would stop to chat. We both knew the danger of him being seen talking with a white girl and would duck out of sight if we saw a car coming. Give the Till family their memorial.
Criminals
Why in the world are Bill and Scott Walker allowed to remain free? These criminals owe hundreds of thousands in restitution and have snubbed their noses to the justice system as well as taxpayers by not paying as agreed. These lowlife criminals should be in jail. Why aren’t they?
Public vs. private
The government needs to turn Walkers collections over to my local bank. It will be collected. That is the difference between government and private. If the bank doesn’t collect, they don’t get a paycheck.
Unrepentant
Thank you, Anita Lee, for the update of the unrepentant felons Bill and Scott Walker. The justice system condemns a man to life in prison for stealing hedge clippers, but these two villains get to stay at home. Perhaps Shad White or the attorney general need to look into this travesty.
Get over it
I am so sick and tired of hearing students and coaches complain about maybe not being able to play sports this fall. People die every day of COVID and all you can think about is football, hockey or other “extra” curricular activities. Yes, those are extra, it’s not your main reason for going to school, or is it? Only in America do we put sports before lives.
Library needed
I still have not received a stimulus check. I have no computer, and rely on the public library when I need one. Everyone must wear masks now, schools are back. Everything is open, except my library. They will not let me enter even with a mask and gloves. I have lost a lot of hours at work and could really use that check for bills. Why are not they open still?
