Sound Off for Aug. 16, 2020
Economic boost
I, for one, believe we should have Cruisin’ the Coast this year. It will be easy to maintain social distancing during the events, which can all be held outdoors. We need the economic boost from this event. Let’s do it!
For want of a comma
We should give attorney Alexander Shunnarah exactly what his billboards ask for: ring him up and “call him ‘Mississippi.’” Mobile readers can “call him ‘Alabama.’”
Fitting flag
Whatever flag is chosen for Mississippi, it would certainly be more fitting than the mosquito if 5 words from the Declaration of Independence are added to it: “All Men are Created Equal.”
Voter supression
Our president does not want to fund the postal system. He says they are inefficient, so he won’t bail them out. If it affects voting, so be it. However, he advocates mail-in voting for Florida which he won due to mail-in voting. Following that logic?
Mail-in votes
With universal mail-in voting, votes are sent to mail addresses on voting rolls. Who knows who fills out the mail in votes and returns the vote? Absentee votes are requested before the election due to a variety of reasons (out of town or illnesses) but have to be verified before being submitted. Otherwise the election will be questionable and delayed for legitimate vote counts.
Corrupt?
Federal absentee voting has been in use for military personnel and their family members for countless years. If “mail-in” voting can be accountable and certified as is absentee voting, then go for it. If not, it is corrupt before it begins!
Nothing to hide
Based on my extensive experience as an old man, whenever I hear someone say “we have nothing to hide,” they usually have something to hide.
Responsible
If the 13- year-old acquired the gun himself then he should be held fully accountable. If someone else left a gun where he could get it, then they should be held responsible as if they did it themselves.
