Sound Off for Aug. 13, 2020
Why?
Why is a 13-year-old charged as an adult? I can’t wait to hear the specifics!
Absurd
It is absurd to try a 13-year-old as an adult for an accident. This exemplifies why we need criminal justice reform. There are better ways to serve justice than ruining his life forever
Negligent legislators
It turns out that the Mississippi Legislature was foolish and cavalier about the danger of the coronavirus, and set a poor example of how to behave during the pandemic. Now that one of our legislators has passed on his infection to someone who died of it, are you going to tell us his name so we can vote him out of office?
Never learn
I saw the picture of the legislators at the recent session. Two had their masks down below their noses and one sitting away from them had no mask in sight. Didn’t they learn from the previous session? Guess not.
Passing the time
At 77 years old, this virus is a pain in the butt. So I reached out to some of my old songs to cheer me up. Try these: Don McLean’s “American Pie,” “Castles in the Air,” “It’s Just the Sun,” “Jerusalem,” “Vincent.” Or Dave Brubeck’s “Take Five, or Kingston Trio’s “Green Back Dollar.” I guarantee it will pick up old folks looking for stuff to do – and maybe enlighten some youngsters!
A patriot
“In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him because then it cost nothing to be a patriot.” — Mark Twain
Dear Casino Discipline
You must be living in utopia. I have been to several casinos and at each I have visited, there are players with no masks, others with masks pulled down around their necks and chins. I see employees passing the same cleaning rag over machine after machine. The employees are not doing near enough to enforce CDC and Gaming Commission guidelines. I am still scratching my head as to why casinos get to furnish alcohol between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when bar owners cannot.
