Sound off for Aug. 11, 2020
Casino discipline
Since the reopening, casinos appear to be doing a great job supporting CDC guidance. A recent visit illustrated how well they have reacted. A temperature check is given at entry, masks are mandatory. There are hand-wash stations and wipes at every slot machine. Workers are constantly sanitizing equipment. At the buffet, tables are distanced, masked servers dispense food. Customers are required to wear masks to and from buffet area to seating area. If all businesses (and customers) were this reactive and disciplined, things would return to normal.
From a Teacher
To those writing they are shocked to see large class sizes and a lack of social distancing at school reopenings, let me confirm as a local teacher that you’re 100% right. Masks are on, but we are sardines in class. We’re putting on a brave face because communities wanted this, but most of us are worried sick. Use this as you will, Coast parents.
Mask up in church
To my fellow church members refusing to wear a mask: A mask’s purpose is to protect you and to protect your fellow members from you. How can you look at the empty seats normally occupied by members we know are virus-stricken and not feel the slightest bit guilty? Also, look at the many seats not occupied because you do not wear a mask. God bless and help our congregation.
Awesome to see
I first noticed the dragon flies in August 2005, a couple of weeks after Katrina. The sky was full of them, all flying north/northeast at that time. I’ve seen them each year since then, but not as many as in 2005. My guess is they swarm like that somewhere around here each year.
Healthy breakfast?
I was reading an article on Sunday about a healthy breakfast for kids. Every recipe contained some form of sugar, and lots of it. The writer should be ashamed. The children will burn out in a few hours.
Unnecessary exposure
Just read where U.S. cruise ships cannot sail until Oct. 31. With that said, it makes no sense for Cruisin’ the Coast to take place the first week in October. Our health is more important than the benefits.
