Classes too large

Gov. Reeves mentioned class size limits, so what is that number? My son’s class (high school) has over 30 students in a small classroom! Not acceptable!

No distancing

The first picture I see on the front page of the Sun Herald of students entering Biloxi High School on the first day of classes and no social distancing, only masks. Students are lined up in a double line within inches of each other.

Grateful to be retired

The state health dept., University Medical Center and several other medical groups called for delaying school opening for a few more weeks. The governor decided not to listen to sound advice. He is following the same path as Florida and Texas opening schools too early. I count my blessings every day that I am a retired teacher and don’t have to subject myself to the stress in the schools today.

Nostalgia

With the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina coming up, I reflect to the past and the present and compare it with COVID-19. Katrina: Neighbors helping neighbors. Communities helping every race and religion. Homes were lost but human life was important. COVID-19: Fighting about wearing a simple mask, being afraid to send your child to school or to go to work, racial injustice, hundreds of thousands of lives lost but our leader says, “It is what it is,” people dying in hospitals without someone by their side. I really, really miss our old community, our old America.

Saves lives

Using a face mask is a little bit like using a seat belt in your car. When you first start using it, it’s very easy to forget it; at first it may seem uncomfortable, but you get used to it. And it saves lives.

Succession

Even though we are grieving for our late mayor, citizens of Diamondhead still need to know what the plan is for electing a new mayor. We have not been told by city officials.

Dragon flies

Is anyone else having a swarm of what looks like dragon flies in their yards?
