Sound Off for Aug. 4, 2020
Propaganda
I read in dismay at Facebook posts of friends that I consider just, good and smart. They propaganda that COVID is hyped up to be more than it is. As a nurse who cares for COVID patients, I can assure you it’s not hype. Be careful what you believe because a sword may pierce your heart. In other words you will be wondering what you could have differently to protect a loved one. Maybe something as simple as wearing a mask and not spreading misinformation about its effectiveness.
Single moms
As a teacher of over 30 years, I can positively state that children of single-parent families are often as likely to be well-behaved, diligent students as two parent families. The put-down in a Sound Off about single-parent children is hurtful and certainly not always true.
Chief culprit
Will someone please explain to the new police chief that public health and public safety are areas he can contribute to by setting a good example, wearing a mask, and giving an elbow bump instead of the hugs he gave at his swearing in ceremony?
Mask-ercise
What a joke. A gym advertising masks requirements! But that’s when you walk in the door. Working out doesn’t require them. Been wearing one for a few weeks all the time I’m in there, and not a problem, and I’m old. About a third of the membership wear a mask all the time. Why not everyone?
Re: Go On Strike
It’s illegal for MS teachers to strike. And should they quit, they can lose their license for a year. They can’t do this one themselves, sadly. They need our help. Please, write to your superintendent, to the governor. They aren’t listening to teachers, but maybe they’ll listen to all of us if we unite.
Enforcement
Even though bars supposedly have an 11 p.m. closing time that started two weeks ago I see two clubs open until at least 2 a.m. and nobody outside had a mask on nor was there any social distancing! Can anybody explain why the police, mayor and/or governor has allowed this to happen?
