Sound Off for Aug. 2, 2020
Politics in sports
Since the NCAA ia following the lead of the NFL in allowing players to put social justice patches on their uniforms, I won’t be watching any football this year. I hope more people will do the same. Keep you politics out of sports.
Excuses
I laughed at all the reasons cited against marijuana for medicinal use. First, there is a liquor store on every corner and sold at gas stations and convenience stores. Narcotics including “anti-anxiety pills” are in everyone’s house. Terminally ill patients are giving a kit filled with pills and are eagerly renewed. Last, kids already get marijuana which is often times laced with dangerous chemicals. The only ones who benefit now are the drug companies.
Boon to economy
Mississippi should have got in on the ground floor of the legalization of pot. It would have been a boon to our economy just like the casinos, maybe even bigger. Right now, sales are booming, but apparently we are supposed to get drunk and buy lottery tickets instead.
Delay start
The Jackson County School District superintendent needs to follow the lead of other districts pushing back the start date of school until after Labor Day. We are in the midst of a virus that gets worse daily. The governor is trying to get it under control. Please do not endanger our children and teachers needlessly, give them time to see if they can lower the curve.
Dignity
The eulogy delivered by Barack Obama at John Lewis’s funeral was a poignant reminder of how our president should embody intelligence and dignity in sharp contrast to the current occupant of the White House. John Lewis’s life was devoted to voting rights, and his death is a timely reminder of the importance of our vote in November.
Really Barack
Barrack “O” gave the eulogy for John Lewis, but he used the pulpit to try one last attempt to get people to drink the last glass of Kool-Aid. Shame on you for continuing to lie to the American people. We now know from declassifed documents that you and Joe were well aware the Russian hoax was a hoax!
