Sound Off for July 31, 2020
Prioritize health
I am all in for supporting our local businesses, but if they are not concerned for my health I will not patronize there business. I was having lunch today at a local restaurant and caught a glimpse of the chef, no mask!
No masks, no money
If you’re uncomfortable with reporting mask violations to the health department, you don’t have to! If I walk into a restaurant and see roaches or filthy tables, I leave. There are other places to eat without jeopardizing my health. They’ll get the message. The bottom line is more effective than Big Brother.
Perkinston history
So the MGCC changed the name of the Jefferson Davis Campus, I suppose they will change the name of the Perkinston campus now. Reason being, Mr. Perkins served in the Confederate Army for whom Perkinston is named!
W.H. Harrison
I see that Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has decided to change the name of the Jefferson Davis campus to Harrison County campus. I am guessing that the cancel culture group feel that the J.D. name is representative of racism and slavery. Perhaps they should take a long look at who Harrison County is named after. W.H. Harrison, a former president, owned a plantation, many slaves, and had a bunch of illegitimate children by said slaves.
Consequences
Conservatives complaining about cancel culture, the news and social media censoring them and violating their freedom of speech need to re-read the 1st Amendment. You are free to express your opinion without government reprisal or interference. It does not and never has meant the ability to say whatever you want without societal consequence.
Overdue change
I applaud the removal of these names. I’m Southern and white and I think it is about time we move forward with our human brothers no matter what race or religion and truly be Americans under one flag. This is 100 years over due.
On the ballot
Let me get this straight, we are voting to allow marijuana to be given to kids under the guise of medicine but can not vote on our current flag?
